Children see, children do

As a teacher, I am pleased when students pick up good modelled behaviours. However, I know that it is very easy indeed to set the poorest of examples and have this adopted by young people. There’s little I can say about this outstanding Australian video except, “Make your influence positive”.

More info about the video here and at NAPCAN. In Australia, National Child Protection week begins on 6th September 2009. I’m not aware of such a thing in Scotland, although we do have some very high standards in the State provision: perhaps we should be doing more to raise public concern.

mrhood.co.uk

I have decided to suspend the domain mrhood.co.uk for the time being. It now redirects here.

mrhood.co.uk was my main domain for hosting my “World-Wide-Whatsit”, a blog for students which was popular and well received in the wider community, receiving up to a quarter of a million hits after one post was slashdotted and a regular hit rate in the tens of thousands per week. I also kept the wiki and a Moodle classroom there, as well as a teacher blog.

The main reason for suspending the site is that for the last two years it has been blocked by Fife Council’s Websense filters and I have given up trying to get it released. I have had dialogue with the region, appealed to as high an authority as I can and even tried to speak with Websense. All it has got me is nowhere.

I am determined to at least try to do the best I can to use the skills I have to help students. It’s what education ought to be about. So, here we have a new domain. With RSS and 3G to help me reach those who want it, here I offer my service.

So, for the time being, please update your bookmarks. If you want to access information on Physics, click the link at the right. Same for the teacher blog. You can find a copy of the wiki here.
